Activities in and around Durham Coastal Lodges

Durham Coastal Lodges are perfectly designed for couples, families and small groups of friends. Both 2 and 3 bedroom lodges have plenty of space in the garden, for kids to run around and adults to sit back and enjoy the view.

And what a view. Haswell sits in the open countryside to the east of the Durham, on the way to the sandy beaches on the North Sea coast. The area is criss crossed with pathways to explore, some of them converted from old waggon ways used by the county’s hundreds of coal mines. The village of Haswell is on the doorstep, with its pub, post office and the chance to order a great takeaway.

To the east of Haswell, about a 15 minute drive away, lies the Durham Heritage Coast. This covers a huge stretch of coastline from Tyne and Wear in the north, through County Durham and onto Teesside in the south. There are lots of mapped and signposted walks to follow, with some truly spectacular views along the way. The Coast features limestone cliffs, superb promontories, woodland and lovely sandy beaches.

Another local attraction for nature lovers to enjoy is the Castle Eden Dene National Nature Reserve. This follows the Castle Eden Burn, which is a beautiful wooded valley with protected status. From its staring point next to the A19, the Reserve stretches all the way to the sea.

To the west of Haswell is the historic City of Durham. This has lots to offer both the daytime and night time visitor. With its dramatic cathedral dominating the local landscape, this World Heritage Site is home to many cultural activities throughout the year. As the city is quite hilly, you might want to stop off in one of its hundreds of pubs and restaurants, or pop into a few of its unique shops and boutiques.

A Final Note

Durham Coastal Lodges are perfectly placed for a peaceful getaway, either as a couple or with family and friends. With either two or three bedrooms, the open plan living area and patio give plenty of space to spread out and relax. The site is in the middle of beautiful countryside, with open fields and pastures everywhere.

The local village is very handy for refreshments if nobody fancies cooking. The World Heritage City of Durham is on your doorstep, as is some spectacular coastline along the Durham Heritage Coast. Newcastle upon Tyne lies just to the north, and Yorkshire to the south.

At the end of a busy day out, treat yourself and your guests to a luxurious hot tub in your own private garden.
