Activities in and around Brereton

Laurel Cottage is ideally located for enjoyment of the spectacular local countryside around east Cheshire and the Peak District. Part of Illidge Green farm, the holiday home is right in the middle of beautiful rolling countryside.

There are plenty of country lanes and signposted walks just on the doorstep, so any canine companion you bring with you will have plenty to explore. The nearby River Croco is one of the many waterways in the area, so there are plenty of riverside walks to follow. The village of Arclid lies just to the south, and boasts its very own gastropub. That’s if you get tired of cooking in your cottage’s fitted kitchen. To the north of the farm, Brereton nestles just off the A50 and Dog Lane. The village is home to the Bear’s Head pub, which dates back to the 17th Century, and gives a hint of what Brereton was famous four. There is an annual Bear Festival, including the famous Brereton Bear Hunt.Slightly away from the village is a paintball centre, if you and your partner or guests are feeling adventurous. If not, or maybe afterwards, the charming town of Holmes Chapel lies just up the A50 to the north of Brereton. This is a typical Cheshire town, and has plenty of high class shops to treat yourself or stock up on provisions. There are also some excellent pubs, restaurants and other eateries where you can replenish yourselves, and dogs if you have them.To the east of the cottage lies the Peak District National Park. This can be accessed via the A54, which passes through Holmes Chapel. The Park itself is home to some beautiful country towns and villages, so has plenty on offer for the sight-seer. Of course, it’s the Peak District’s natural beauty which really attracts people, from walkers and hikers to cyclists, kayakers, and cave divers. There’s plenty to do here for more than one day trip, so plan carefully.

A Final Note

Laurel Cottage offers a unique country getaway, with a parter, a couple of friends, and your pet dog or dogs. A short walk or drive away are lovely country villages and towns, and Brereton itself has some remarkable stories to tell. The character of Cheshire shines through in towns like Holmes Chapel and Sandbach, while the Peak District National Park is there, begging to be visited.

The retained beam work gives a feeling of real character, which this farm setting is all about. The open plan living room gives plenty of space to stretch out, while the shared swimming pool is a real treat. There’s even a kids’ slide next to the pool, so you can keep an eye on them if needs be. The hot tub, meanwhile, can be hired out privately by arrangement; and what better way to end the day?
