The quirky Pencil Museum and Puzzling Place are great value for money attractions for rainy days, which the kids will love and the excellent Beatrix Potter Museum and all the attractions of Lake Windermere including boat cruises, a splendid aquarium, and Brockhole Visitor Centre are all within driving distance.

Fancy a day at the beach? No problem, Cumbria has some outstanding stretches of coastline including the popular Haverigg Beach, so pack a picnic and let the kids spend the day building castles in the sand, while you relax, read a book or top up your tan.
