Activities In The Lyme Regis Area

Dorset has more than 100 miles of coast with each area offering something different to visitors. Lyme Regis is an unspoiled resort with an old fishing port. It’s a favourite place of many families who return year after year.

Lyme Regis has a full events calendar. It starts in January with a group plunge in the sea. In April there’s a fossil festival, May brings a jazz event, August sees a regatta and in November there is a spectacular firework display. With the famous Cobb harbour, fishing trips, boutique shops, art galleries and a theatre, there’s hardly time to play on the beach or hunt for fossils.

At Seaton, there’s an old-fashioned tramway and a Jurassic museum full of dinosaur and fossil facts that little one will enjoy. Seaton Wetland Reserves is a haven for birds. They can be spotted as you while away a few hours in the natural surroundings. At Beer there is a tranquil little beach and a miniature railway called Pecorama. The play area here is a big hit with little ones, and adults enjoy the coffee served at the café.

A Final Note

Stay in the Lyme Regis area for a holiday packed with things to do. This traditional seaside town is as pretty as a picture and has an old harbour, pastel-coloured cottages and a yellow curve of sand. Well-known for the fossils that can be found on the seafront, it is also a town that attracts literary types and artists. With Seaton, Charmouth, Beer and Chesil Beach nearby, you can visit many different beach towns from Sea View Lodge.

If you prefer to roam the countryside and browse quaint villages, then you can explore the area around the Roudson Estate. With 350-acres of grounds to walk, you don’t have to venture very far from this holiday home.
