Activities In The Chepstow Area

The Retreat cottage sits between Chepstow and the picturesque Forest of Dean, and offers the perfect place to explore two counties. The Wye Valley is close at hand too – with outdoor pursuits of every kind nearby.

Chepstow is a walled Norman town, and the castle ruins lie alongside the River Wye. As it is a busy market town, there are restaurants, shops and places to drink here. It is also well known for its race course. For ramblers, a walk along Offa's Dyke following the border between England and Wales should not be missed. For a family walk in the Forest of Dean, there is nothing better than the Sculpture Trail. Spot the works of art as you stroll through the trees enjoying the natural surroundings.

Tintern Abbey is close by, a splendid 12th century building next to the old village of Tintern. It's a great place for a walk, and to take some excellent photographs. In the Wye Valley, there are plenty of adventurous things to do. Paddle boarding, kayaking and climbing are just some of the things you can try in the area.

A Final Note

The Forest of Dean and Wye Valley have been popular with families for decades. There is a lot do and see, but if you want to take it easy, then it is also peaceful too. Walks, hikes and rambles are what people come here for – you can take it at your own pace, but enjoy all of the scenery on offer.

The Retreat is a lovely cottage that has comfortable fittings and a great garden. Cooking up lunch on the barbecue here is a pleasure when you have views like these. And then there is the large hot tub, just right for 6 people to relax in.
