Activities in and around Castlebar

The cottage is spacious and luxurious enough to provide plenty of entertainment on its own. There is a games room with a pool table, and a large lawn out the back with its own mini goalposts.

The village of Singleton also has plenty of charms, including a country pub, within easy walking distance. Just outside the village lies Singleton Park, which has plenty of room for kids and dogs to explore its natural setting. To the west is Singleton Maize Maze, which will keep kids, dogs and adults alike amused for hours. There are organized events and a cafe for rest and refreshment.

Singleton lies just outside Poulton le Fylde, which is well worth visiting itself. A beautiful market town, Poulton dates back thousands of years, and has both Roman and Norman remains for those interested in history; St. Chad’s Church in particular appears on the National Heritage List for England. Other activities in Poulton include the Wyre Estuary Country Park, which has riverfront trails, a playground, picnic area and dedicated wildlife protection areas.

There is much more wildlife to see, and paths to explore, further up the Wyre estuary, and on the Fylde coast. To the south west of Poulton, meanwhile, lies Blackpool, which has countless attractions for families of all ages. Slightly away from the town’s famous seaside, Blackpool Zoo is situated in acres of open space, and is next to Heron’s Reach golf course. This is one of the many golf courses in the area, which may please at least some of your holiday party. Also near the zoo, meanwhile, is Blackpool Model Village & Gardens.

Further inland, the Forest of Bowland AONB, Ribble Estuary, Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks are all within a short drive. There are many market towns and typical Lancashire villages, plus the Settle to Carlisle and Ribble Steam Railways for train enthusiasts. All of these can be enjoyed with children and well behaved dogs.

Castlebar is the perfect base for a group holiday, whether that’s for one large family, two smaller ones, or adult groups. The facilities, including private hot tub, are ideal for enjoying luxurious home comforts, while the surrounding area has countless attractions for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers.

The nearby towns of Poulton and Blackpool have lots of shops, bars, restaurants and all sorts of distractions. Once back home, the private gated property means you can cut yourself off from the rest of the world and prepare for tomorrow.
