Activities in the Vale of York area

The peace and quiet of Griffon Forest offers a relaxing retreat from the hustle and bustle, and within a few miles of the park there are lots of great things see. The historical city of York is 8 miles away and this city alone offers an abundance of sites to see.

Walk the medieval wall of York, it’s the longest in existence at 3.4km and the cobbled streets of The Shambles are not be missed either. Rent a boat and take a trip along the River Ouse or learn about the Vikings at the Jorvik exhibition.

There are more shops than you can imagine, and restaurants line the streets. If you’ve never had one before, you have to try a Yorkshire pudding wrap in York, it’s a full roast dinner rolled up so you can hold it in one hand!

Explore Howardian Hill, an area of outstanding beauty. With rolling hills, woodlands, the River Derwent and pretty villages there’s plenty to see.

Howard Castle is a fine stately home with magnificent gardens and an adventure playground for the kids. It’s just 7 miles away from the park and well worth a visit.
