Activities in the Betley area

Carpenters Cottage is part of Betley Court, which is a working farm in 180 acres of woodland and open pasture. The cottage has a shared garden, and access to the farm’s land, which includes a stream which can be fished with agreement from the farm’s owners, and for a fee.

The farm works with the seasons, of course, and during spring time there is lambing to enjoy. Kids especially love this amazing natural event. The surrounding area outside the farm has many signposted footpaths, bridleways and cycle trails.

The village of Betley is just down the lane to the left, and has a lovely country pub which serves food. The village also has a reasonably priced fishing pond and its own parks and garden. There are events in the village throughout the year, especially the Village Show in and the annual music festival. To the south of Betley on Main Road, lies the village of Wrinehill, which also boasts two pubs. These are geared towards the gastropub side of things, so they’d be perfect for an evening out instead of cooking.

Betley is perfectly placed for local visitor attractions, many of which will appeal to families with kids. One popular site is the Go Ape activity centre at Delamere Forest, which is a short drive away up the A54. This is a safe but fun treetop adventure, which adults will love as much as kids. Also nearby is the car and motorbike racing track at Oulton Park. This is great to just go and watch, but there are driving packages available for the more adventurous.

For a quieter day out, there are many lovely market towns and villages in the area, which have plenty of pubs, restaurants and sights to see. There are also many local shops in these towns, unlike many a high street elsewhere in the country. Nantwich lies just over the border in Cheshire, and has three markets a week, plus a monthly farmers market. Betley is also handy for the major towns of Crewe and Newcastle under Lyme.

A Final Note

Carpenters Cottage has lots to offer couples, families with older kids or small groups of adult friends. The barn features have been kept, especially the big, original beams overhead.

The big brick chimney breast with its wood burner is the perfect place to sit around and chat of an evening, while just outside is a wonderful working farm. There are 180 acres of woodland and pasture to enjoy, which is something not many holiday homes can offer.

Just next door, the lovely villages of Betley and Wrinehill mean you don’t have to walk too far for a taste of country life, not to mention pubs. Further afield, the market towns of Cheshire and Staffordshire have plenty of sights to see, and great ways to spend days out. There are also more adrenaline filled attractions like Go Ape and Oulton Park. At the end of the day, lie back and relax in your own private hot tub.
