Northumberland has a rich heritage and boasts an impressive number of castles including Alnwick Castle, Dunstanburgh Castle and Bamburgh Castle all of which are within driving distance and offer great family days out.

Wildlife lovers should take a boat trip from the picturesque harbour town of Seahouses where you can view the puffin and grey seal colonies on the nearby Farne Islands one of the UK’s finest wildlife habitats.

Another fantastic day trip is to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne home to a medieval priory and castle this popular tourist attraction can only be reached at low tide so check crossing times before setting off.

Travelling with children? They’ll love Chain Bridge Honey Farm at Berwick-upon-Tweed and the popular Go Ape at Morpeth where they can let off steam on the high rope adventure courses.

Not forgetting the stunning coast with miles of golden sands, secluded coves and picturesque fishing villages, the region is ideal for long walks, paddling, picnics and of course some traditional fish and chips.
